Cross-Country Road Trip Day 20
We thought that if we arrived at Arches National Park by 7:30am we wouldn’t have any problems getting into the park. We were sadly mistaken because the park gates were closed saying that it was too full and to come back in 3-5 hours. A ranger at another park later told us we would need to be there before 6am or come back after 4pm.
We instead drove to Canyonlands National Park where we had a lovely visit with some gorgeous scenery. We even had a raven take a liking to us. He hopped on my bike and hung around while we took photos. After giving him a cracker, he followed us to other stops (I know, I know…I shouldn’t feed the wildlife, but ravens are scavengers and I’d rather give him a cracker than for him to scatter trash from the bins).
After Canyonlands we had lunch at Subway then went back to the hotel and took naps…at least Wanda and I did while Billy did client work.
In the early evening, Billy and I drove back to Arches National Park and got in without any problems. There was more gorgeous scenery and it was hard not to stay until dark to see the night sky.
Back in Green River, Billy and I looked for a place for a late dinner. Most places were crowded and had a long wait. We finally found the West Winds Restaurant that’s located next to their truck stop. Not many people were in there, but it must be a best kept secret because the food was cheap and really good! I had an open faced roast beef sandwich with gravy and some fries (also with gravy) that was delicious. And they gave us a 10% discount since we were staying at a local hotel.
