Bike MS 2025
Riding With the Biking Vikings
A New Team, Same Mission
After an unforgettable Bike MS weekend in 2024, I knew I’d be back for the 2025 ride. My previous team wasn’t participating this year, so I joined the Biking Vikings—a group with serious fundraising chops and a flair for fun. I already knew a couple of members, and they welcomed me with open arms. The team’s goal was ambitious: raise $55,000. My personal target was $250, and I was thrilled to surpass it with $358 in donations. Our team ended up raising over $78K making us the 5th top team this year!
Horns, Braids, and Baby Dragons
Friday night was all about team bonding. I met more Vikings, decked out my helmet with horns and braids, and—yes—adopted a baby dragon. Thanks to the team’s fundraising success, we had our own pop-up canopy, table, and chairs, creating a cozy little Viking village.
Dinner was provided by the event: pasta with two types of sauces and a fresh salad. Our team added snacks and drinks to the mix, including a Danish beverage made with fermented fennel. Surprisingly delicious.

Scenic Miles and Solo Climbs
Saturday morning, we rolled out together. About 10 miles in, I broke away to tackle a hill solo. I love this route—it crosses a causeway over the bay at Anacortes and spans the dramatic Deception Pass bridge. The views are breathtaking, no matter how many times I’ve seen them.
Lunch was served at Deception Pass State Park: burritos, hearty and satisfying. The only letdown? No free root beer this year.
Familiar Faces at the Finish
The next rest stop was a highlight—my friends Michael and Daidrie were volunteering there. Last year, they rode with me, with Daidrie as team captain. This time, Michael was sidelined with a broken collarbone but still showed up to support.

After finishing the ride, I grabbed a free shaved ice. It didn’t hit the spot like last year, though—the weather was colder, the wind was picking up, and rain was on the horizon.
Choosing Dry Over Determined
Camping in the rain is not my idea of fun, and riding in it is even worse. With the forecast looking grim, I made the call to skip the second day and head home. It turned out to be the right decision—the next day was a washout.
Conclusion: A Ride Worth Repeating
Even with a chilly finish and a shortened weekend, Bike MS 2025 delivered everything I love about these events: community, challenge, and a touch of Viking whimsy. From helmet horns to scenic climbs, it was another ride to remember—and I’ll be back, dragon in tow.
