Accomplishments & Goals

It’s almost three years since I started riding a bike again and as I look back over the past year, I want to highlight some of my biggest accomplishments. At age 64, I have some huge first-time goals. When I accomplish them, I’m proof that it doesn’t matter what age (or shape) you are, you don’t have to slow down in your retirement years!

Accomplishments

  • Upgraded my eBike from a RadRunner to a RadMission (which is lighter and looks more like a regular road bike, sans gears)
  • Increase my single ride distance and speed
  • Rode many rides at night with COGS – such a different cycling experience!
  • Lost 25 pounds in 3.5 months (no longer obese, just overweight)
  • Was asked to be a 2023 STP Ambassador by Cascade Bicycle Club
  • Was asked to speak at the Bike Everywhere Breakfast 2023 by Cascade Bicycle Club

Goals

  • Lose another 34 pounds in 2023
  • Ride from Seattle to Portland (STP) for the first time (slightly over 100 miles two days in a row)
  • Race in my first ever triathlon – swim 825 yards, bike (no eBike) 12 miles and run 5K!
    • Purchased a used hybrid road bike by Cannondale to start training
    • Started running around the block – not far, but at start!
  • Ride the full century at Reach The Beach WA
  • Start to transition from eBike to road bike
