Tour de Cure 2023
I was supposed to be riding in the Gigantic Bike Festival, but it was cancelled at the last minute due to lack of participation. Looking for another event, I opted to ride Tour de Cure for a second year. Since I have diabetes, I didn’t mind donating the minimum fundraising amount. It also meant that I would be getting a “Red Rider” jersey at the event.

After arriving and checking in, I got my jersey. I liked the design much better than the one from last year.
By start time for the 30 mile ride, I didn’t see that many people and asked the director how many were registered. She said around 100, which was quite low compared to previous years. They usually have the event in June, but corporate changed the date without consulting the local chapter. Not only was in SeaFair weekend, but it was also one week before Obliteride, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research’s big fundraising that attracts several thousand riders.
I was one of the first to take off at the start. It wasn’t a race, but I ride fast, usually between 16-18 mph.

It sprinkled a bit during the ride, but the temperature was mild and for once I didn’t mind riding in the rain.
I think I was the first to finish the 30-mile route (closer to 31 miles in actuality), but several from the short route were finishing around the same time.

It was great to get outside and ride this weekend, but I’m not sure I’ll ride this event again due to the poor attendance and the time of year.
