Cross-Country Road Trip Day 3

Cross-Country Road Trip Day 3

After getting up and eating a sorry breakfast at the motel, we drove to Glendale to visit the dinosaur and fossil museum. We were way too early and they weren’t open yet. We pressed on to reach the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I hadn’t heard of this park until I was researching and planning this road trip and I was so glad I added the stop!

After a stop at the visitor center, we drove the loop. At the first view stop, a lark sparrow was sitting on a sign allowing me to photograph its back before flying off.

Next, we came to the first prairie dog town where there were dozens of prairie dogs and five bison. Further one, we saw more prairie dogs and more bison than I ever saw at Yellowstone! We even saw two small herds of wild horses, including a young colt with a white blaze on its forehead.

The next stop was at the Painted Canyon visitor Center for some quick scenic photos.

Though it added 60 miles to our trip, we drove the Enchanted Highway through the countryside where there were really quirky sculptures of various things about every two to four miles. I love finding stuff like this and it was well worth the detour!

Our next stop was in Bismarck, ND, where we were looking for the Sacagawea statue, but we couldn’t find it. We pressed on until we came upon the world’s tallest sandhill crane.

After taking phots of the crane, we headed to Jamestown in search of the Perkins restaurant for dinner. After driving in circles, I realized that the restaurant was gone and had been totally demolished. We ended up eating at Applebee’s before checking into our hotel.
