2021 Tulip Pedal

2021 Tulip Pedal

Until a few weeks ago, I didn’t even know about the Tulip Pedal until a bike friend invited me to join her for the event. We registered for the 40-mile ride, starting at 10am from the La Conner school.

I had decorated my helmet and bike with fake tulips (so did my bike friends) and we got a lot of attention. So many people hollered that they loved our helmets, taking photos and sometimes even asking to take selfies with me.

We could not have asked for more perfect weather! Temps were in the high 70s and even the wind was warm enough that I was glad I wore short sleeves and shorts.

The route was all roads. The seldom used country roads were the best. I wasn’t as big of a fan on the main roads with all the car trafic. Not all the roads had wide shoulders, so it was a bit nerve-wracking.

We didn’t see any tulip fields until halfway through the ride. But once we started to see them, we stopped a lot to take photos.

Somewhere toward the end of the route we went straight instead of turning right and didn’t notice until we were almost done. It shaved around five miles off the ride and we missed riding past Tulip Town (we did ride past Roosegaarde, though).
