My adventures are as diverse as my friends. I'm an advid long-distance bike rider, cook, author, artist, volunteer, mother, grandmother, and wife.

👀 **Getting older is definitely NOT for wimps!** 😂 👀 **Getting older is definitely NOT for wimps!** 😂

I had my annual retinal and diabetic eye exam today, and the good news is that my eyes are looking very healthy! No diabetic bleeding, no macular degeneration, and no signs of diabetes wreaking havoc on my eyeballs. 🎉 One point for Team Anita!

BUT… I mentioned that the vision in my right eye seemed to be getting a little worse. The doctor took a look with his magnifier and discovered that my lens was cloudy.

Wait. WHAT?! 😳 I thought I’d already had cataract surgery. Aren’t cataracts a one-and-done deal? Do they grow back like weeds in my garden?!

Apparently, no. But there's a little plot twist called **posterior capsular opacification (PCO)**, also known as a “secondary cataract” or “after-cataract.” Basically, the thin membrane holding the artificial lens in place can become cloudy months or even years after cataract surgery.

Because apparently, my eyeballs weren't finished finding new ways to keep me entertained. 🤦‍♀️

The good news? I have an appointment on October 30 for a YAG laser capsulotomy. Sounds like something straight out of a science-fiction movie, doesn't it? 👽

It's actually a quick, painless, in-office laser procedure that takes about five minutes. No cutting, no stitches, and vision usually starts clearing up within 24–48 hours. The doctor uses a laser to make a tiny opening in that cloudy membrane so light can get through properly again.

Easy peasy, right? At least that's the plan!

Here's the thing about getting older: there are certain things you're warned about. Gray hair, wrinkles, creaky joints, and forgetting why you walked into a room. But nobody seems to mention all the surprise bonus features that come with the package!

First, I discovered I have **cold-induced hives** last week. Now my eyeball needs a laser tune-up. What's next? Will my ears start buffering? Will my knees require a software update? Will my brain ask me to accept new terms and conditions? 🤣

Seriously, getting older is an adventure, and apparently, I haven't unlocked all the bonus levels yet!

**Who's got a funny story about an unexpected surprise that came with getting older?** Please share!
🍂🚴‍♀️ The Kitsap Color Classic: My Last Event Ride 🍂🚴‍♀️ The Kitsap Color Classic: My Last Event Ride of the Year! 🚴‍♀️🍂

You’d think after all these years of cycling, I’d sleep like a baby before a big ride. Nope! 😂 A restless night is practically part of my pre-ride routine.

I was up around 7:30 this morning, ready to catch the ferry from Edmonds over to Kingston for another Kitsap Color Classic! Last night, I tweaked my route to include Point No Point Lighthouse and avoid one of the bigger hills. Smart planning, right? 😉 Somehow, I still ended up riding 27 miles instead of the planned 25! So much for taking it easy!

It was a beautiful fall day, but WOW, that wind! 💨 I layered up just right and didn't even need a jacket, but those crosswinds were no joke. A couple of times, the gusts hit so hard I thought the wind was going to blow my bike right out from under me! 😳 Let's just say I was giving those handlebars some extra attention!

But what a wonderful way to spend a fall day, getting outside, enjoying the scenery, and putting more miles on the bike. ❤️

I picked up my souvenir patch at the finish line, then rewarded myself with some delicious food from an Asian vendor at the park. Chinese buns and sticky rice? Yes, please! I even bought an extra serving of sticky rice to enjoy for breakfast tomorrow. 🚴‍♀️🍚

This was my last organized event ride of the year, but don't get the wrong idea. I'm NOT hanging up my helmet just yet! I'll keep riding whenever the weather cooperates, even if that means shorter adventures between the rain showers.

I'm also closing in on my annual goal of 2,500 miles! I've got fewer than 300 miles left to go. Think I can do it? You bet I'm going to try! 💪

A huge thank-you to @cascadebicycle for another great season of cycling adventures!

Who's still riding through the fall and winter? 🍁 Are you a fair-weather cyclist, or will you ride in just about anything? Tell me in the comments!
