🍂🚴‍♀️ The Kitsap Color Classic: My Last Event Ride of the Year! 🚴‍♀️🍂

You’d think after all these years of cycling, I’d sleep like a baby before a big ride. Nope! 😂 A restless night is practically part of my pre-ride routine.

I was up around 7:30 this morning, ready to catch the ferry from Edmonds over to Kingston for another Kitsap Color Classic! Last night, I tweaked my route to include Point No Point Lighthouse and avoid one of the bigger hills. Smart planning, right? 😉 Somehow, I still ended up riding 27 miles instead of the planned 25! So much for taking it easy!

It was a beautiful fall day, but WOW, that wind! 💨 I layered up just right and didn't even need a jacket, but those crosswinds were no joke. A couple of times, the gusts hit so hard I thought the wind was going to blow my bike right out from under me! 😳 Let's just say I was giving those handlebars some extra attention!

But what a wonderful way to spend a fall day, getting outside, enjoying the scenery, and putting more miles on the bike. ❤️

I picked up my souvenir patch at the finish line, then rewarded myself with some delicious food from an Asian vendor at the park. Chinese buns and sticky rice? Yes, please! I even bought an extra serving of sticky rice to enjoy for breakfast tomorrow. 🚴‍♀️🍚

This was my last organized event ride of the year, but don't get the wrong idea. I'm NOT hanging up my helmet just yet! I'll keep riding whenever the weather cooperates, even if that means shorter adventures between the rain showers.

I'm also closing in on my annual goal of 2,500 miles! I've got fewer than 300 miles left to go. Think I can do it? You bet I'm going to try! 💪

What a wonderful day! 😍🏙️

Today I joined the Wallingford Community Senior Center for my first outing with them, and what a way to start! Our destination was the historic Smith Tower, thanks to SDOT and HopeLink.

We took the bus downtown and kicked things off with lunch at Tat’s Deli on Yesler near 2nd Avenue. The place was packed with the lunchtime crowd, but our orders had been called in ahead of time. And surprise! I hadn’t realized lunch was included in this FREE outing. The food was delicious, and I certainly wasn't going to turn down a free meal! 🥪😋

After lunch, we headed to Smith Tower for a guided tour and learned all about its fascinating history. I’d visited the observation deck back in 2017 with David and Heather Hicks, who were visiting from Arkansas, but that was a self-guided visit. This time, I got the historical scoop, too!

Things have changed since 2017. Back then, the elevators were still operated manually by staff. Now they're automated. And from the observation deck, I used to be able to look up 2nd Avenue and see the Space Needle. These days? A new building has spoiled that view. Progress, I suppose! 😂

We had time afterward to enjoy a coffee and take in the spectacular views of Seattle from the observation deck before catching the bus back to the senior center.

But wait, there's more! SDOT even gave each of us a $12 ORCA card for transportation! 🚌💳

Let's review: free transportation, a delicious free lunch, a free guided tour of a Seattle landmark, gorgeous views, coffee time, AND $12 toward future bus rides.

Who says you have to spend a fortune to have a fabulous day out? Not me! ❤️
