Well, folks, apparently Mother Nature and I have reached an understanding: If you're going to make me ride in temperatures in the high 40s and low 50s, I'm going home! 😂

After a chilly night at the campground, I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and decided I'd been away from home long enough. I hadn't packed a warm enough jacket, and the thought of spending the next two days freezing my tush off on a bicycle wasn't exactly appealing. I'm adventurous, not crazy!

So I texted William to let him know I was heading home as soon as I got a little more sleep and packed up camp. Even this adventure-loving cyclist knows when it's time to pull the plug.

But first, a little shopping! On my way toward Leavenworth, I stopped at a fruit stand and scored 20 pounds of Ambrosia apples for just $15! I'm splitting them with Jean, which means apple pie and possibly apple streusel are in my future. Who needs souvenirs when you can bring home baked goods? 🍎🥧

This camping trip may have ended a couple of days early, but I've got plenty of memories, miles, beautiful scenery, and a few sandy cycling adventures to show for it.

Once home, I'll unload the perishables and bring in my clothes. The camping gear? It's staying put until tomorrow. I've earned a day off from unpacking, too!

And just like that, my final camping trip of 2026 is in the books. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have apples to deal with and absolutely nothing on my schedule that requires putting on cycling shorts!

I woke up at 2:00 a.m. to rain hitting my tent. Ap

I woke up at 2:00 a.m. to rain hitting my tent. Apparently, all that sitting around reading yesterday wore me out! 😂 Fortunately, I fell back asleep and didn't get up until 6:30 a.m.

Everything was wet, and my weather app predicted rain practically every hour until 6:00 p.m. So I layered up, packed my rain poncho, loaded my bike, and headed to Chelan. I was NOT looking forward to a long, wet ride!

First stop was breakfast at Blueberry Farm. I ordered corned beef hash and fruit. Holy cow! That enormous plate could have fed a family of four. I barely made a dent! I packed the fruit for later and enjoyed coffee on the back porch with a beautiful view.

Next, I headed to The Root Cellar cidery for a sandwich. Naturally, I got off my planned route and had to climb a VERY steep hill to get back on track. Because apparently I hadn't suffered enough! I also scared about a dozen quail along the way. Watching them scatter was hilarious. Sorry, guys! Didn't mean to interrupt your morning meeting!

At the cidery, I was the first rider there. I spent an hour drinking Diet Coke and chatting with other riders as they arrived.

And then Mother Nature had a good laugh at my expense. The skies turned BLUE, and we didn't get a single drop of rain! Stupid weather app! Maybe I should have ridden the full Cascade route after all, but who knew?

I stopped for my annual photo at the Manson sign, collected my T-shirt at the finish, loaded up my bike, and headed back to camp for a shower and some relaxation before tonight's social.

Another Lake Chelan ride in the books! 🚴‍♀️
