PART 2: STEAMBOAT ROCK ➡️ GRAND COULEE DAM ➡️ BACK

PART 2: STEAMBOAT ROCK ➡️ GRAND COULEE DAM ➡️ BACK AGAIN 🚴‍♀️

After my baguette sandwich and coffee in Grand Coulee, it was time to turn around and head back to Steamboat Rock State Park.

The ride back was pretty much a mirror of the ride there — beautiful lakes, huge skies, dramatic basalt cliffs, and that incredible Eastern Washington scenery. 💙

Along the way, I came across a spot with a collection of old windmills — almost like a little windmill museum — so of course I had to stop and take some pictures. 📸 It was one of those unexpected roadside discoveries that makes exploring by bike so much fun.

Then, at one of the day-use areas in the park, I decided to ride a loop. And that's when things got really interesting! 🦃

I came upon two large flocks of wild turkeys — one on each side of the road. There were probably 10–15 birds in each flock, including a huge tom turkey in each group. They were running around, gobbling, and making all kinds of noises. It was quite a sight!

And speaking of turkeys… they had already been my alarm clock that morning! I woke up very early to the sound of them gobbling near my tent as they made their way past. Nothing like a wild turkey alarm clock when you're camping! 😂🦃

When I reached the park entrance, I thought about riding a few more miles to find that lonely shoe tree — the one with all the shoes hanging from it. But it was farther up the road than I wanted to go, so I decided to call it a day.

39 miles for the day! 🚴‍♀️💪

Beautiful scenery, a quirky roadside stop, unexpected wildlife, good food and coffee, and another adventure on two wheels. Not a bad way to spend a day! ❤️🚴‍♀️
