My adventures are as diverse as my friends. I'm an advid long-distance bike rider, cook, author, artist, volunteer, mother, grandmother, and wife.

🚴‍♀️ **A change of plans turned into a fantastic S 🚴‍♀️ **A change of plans turned into a fantastic Sunday ride!**

Yesterday was supposed to be a volunteer day for Sunday food rescue (PRP). After putting out a plea on Facebook, we managed to get 12 volunteers signed up. Mission accomplished!

Then Cascade put out an urgent call for ride leaders for a 100+ rider group ride. Since PRP was covered, I switched gears (literally!) and signed up.

We met at the new Seattle Break Bike House in Pioneer Square at 1 PM. There were so many riders it felt like an official cycling event! I helped with the 15-mile Steady group (12–14 mph), with Naomi leading, me sweeping, and Mike Kelly as our trusty floater. We had 25 riders in our group!

The day was dry, but that brisk wind triggered my cold-induced hives AGAIN. Thankfully, Marlene had Benadryl, so I got ahead of the itching before it drove me crazy.

Our route took us along the Portside Trail, over the lower West Seattle Bridge, along Alki Beach (with a quick stop at the mini Statue of Liberty), around Alki Point and onto Beach Drive.

Then came the dreaded Dakota Street climb! 😳 Those on regular bikes did great. Me? My e-bike has no gears, so I'm stuck with that big chainring the entire way. I may start out faster, but halfway up, everyone passes me. I barely made it to the top a few times, but I DIDN'T WALK! That's a win! 😂

Back at Seattle Break, we enjoyed sandwiches, chips and beverages, plus a raffle courtesy of Cascade.

By 4:15, I was tired and seriously considering taking light rail home. But I dug deep and rode the whole way back to Roosevelt instead. Another little victory!

What a great day, and I'm so glad I took advantage of the dry weather. Although, after two episodes of cold-induced hives, I'm beginning to wonder if my body is trying to tell me something about winter cycling! 🥶🤣
