Busy homemaking day. I picked up produce at the se Busy homemaking day. I picked up produce at the senior center with most of the items needing attention right away, else they will spoil to soon.
Raspberries - had to eat quickly and only half were edible
Nectarine (1) - rinsed and dried
Leek - trimmed and washed
Collard Greens (2 bunches) - blanched and now cooling for the freezer
Corn on the Cob (1 bushel) - Nobody really wanted to deal with the corn, so I took a bushel (there was still another bushel left). Blanched and cooling before cutting it off the cob and putting it in freezer bags. I'm keeping two quarts and giving the rest back to the senior center to freeze for their lunch menu.
Savoy Cabbage - shredded and will be pounding soon to make sauerkraut.
Strawberries - Washed and de-capped, dried on paper towel and in the fridge
Bing Cherries - Sorted and washed; now in the fridge
Anaheim Peppers - will be roasting them, then chopped and frozen
French Bread - will be baking in a bit; going to freeze half of it.

Brings back lots of memories of me helping my mom do all this when I was a teen. Each summer she would go to a farm and bring home corn, green beans, tomatoes, etc. Most was blanched for freezing, but some were canned.
