My adventures are as diverse as my friends. I'm an advid long-distance bike rider, cook, author, artist, volunteer, mother, grandmother, and wife.

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you did Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you didn’t plan. 🚴‍♀️🌧️

I was originally supposed to drive to Spokane, camp for the weekend, and ride a bike event tomorrow. But when the forecast changed to rain all night and all day tomorrow, I decided I wasn’t interested in camping in the rain just to prove a point. Not to mention that I knew I would be miserable riding a metric Century in the rain! 😂

So…Plan B!

Instead, I hopped on my bike this morning and rode from my house in North Seattle all the way to Lakewood to spend some time with my in-laws. 61 miles later, I made it! 🚴‍♀️💪

The ride took me through an amazing variety of scenery, including about nine different trails. Along the Green River, I passed at least a hundred fishermen—some along the banks and others actually wading into the water. The funny thing? I didn’t see a single fish being caught! 🎣😂

Things got a little more challenging once I reached Puyallup and had to leave the trails for the streets. And then came the canyon road.

It was long.
It was steep.
And it was brutal. 😳

I made it about halfway up before admitting that even a long-distance rider needs a hydration break. So I stopped, got a good drink, caught my breath, and then tackled the rest of the climb.

And yes… I survived. 😆

Tomorrow I get to relax and enjoy some family time instead of riding in the rain. Then Monday, I’ll put my bike on the Sounder and ride the train back home.

Not the weekend I originally planned—but 61 miles, nine trails, one seriously nasty hill, and a whole lot of adventure later, I’d say Plan B worked out pretty well. ❤️🚴‍♀️

I could either spend five to six hours driving to Spokane and then riding in a lot of rain tomorrow or like a pack up my panniers on my bike and head south 4 to 5 hours in the dry to Lakewood and spend time with my in-laws. Guess which one I picked!? I may even get another ride in tomorrow between rain. As I was riding along the Green River I couldn't believe how many men were out fishing. There had to be at least a hundred spread out along the banks of the river over several miles. If they weren't on the banks they were wading in the river.
