My adventures are as diverse as my friends. I'm an advid long-distance bike rider, cook, author, artist, volunteer, mother, grandmother, and wife.

Some traditions become part of the soul of an even Some traditions become part of the soul of an event.
For more than 33 years, Gene and Susan have been showing up for Seattle to Portland riders with hundreds of homemade slices of banana bread, a smile, and encouragement exactly when it's needed most. ❤️🍌
This year I wanted to surprise them with something small to recognize something truly extraordinary. I presented them with the very first Top Banana Award—inspired by the Top Banana stickers I created in their honor.
They placed the little banana trophy right in the middle of the banana bread table on Day 2 of STP. Then something unexpected happened...
Another rider added a tiny disco ball. Riders stopped to smile, laugh, and take photos. The trophy stayed there all day, watching hundreds of cyclists enjoy Gene and Susan's famous banana bread.
By the end of the day, only one lonely piece of banana bread remained beside the trophy... until one final rider claimed it. The perfect ending to another amazing STP.
Gene and Susan, thank you for proving that the biggest impact often comes from the simplest acts of kindness. You haven't just fed hungry cyclists—you've nourished the spirit of this ride for decades.
You will always be the Top Bananas of STP. 🍌💛
Thank you, @cascadebicycle, for creating an event where volunteers like Gene and Susan remind us that the cycling community is something truly special.

Sleep didn't win last night, so I made the smart d Sleep didn't win last night, so I made the smart decision to switch from the metric century to the 44-mile route at Tour de Whatcom. Sometimes listening to your body is the best choice.

It was a chilly start, and I even rode through a little rain on my way into Birch Bay. Once I reached the bay, I peeled off my windbreaker and my fleece arm warmers were just enough to stay comfortable.

I also had one of those "well, this is happening" moments... I forgot my cycling shoes! 😆 Thankfully, my barefoot shoes paired with my flat pedals turned out to be surprisingly comfortable for the entire ride.

The route was full of beautiful farmland, coastal views, fun roadside discoveries (including an amazingly decorated ghost bike), and I couldn't resist stopping for a photo at the intersection of Elder Road. How often do you get to find a road with your own last name? That definitely made me smile!

Not every ride has to be your longest or fastest. Sometimes the best rides are simply the ones that leave you smiling all the way home. 🚴‍♀️💙
